Meet the Staff

Karen Senne is from Welcome.  She has previously worked at the quilt shop in Blue Earth.  She likes to teach wool classes.  Ask her about her quilting portfolios.  She does an excellent job of documenting each quilt she makes.  Karen is our appliqué expert.  See her tea towel and wool projects in the store.   Feel free to ask Karen to help you with your quilting questions.  She is more than glad to help.

Jodi Kuhlers comes to us from Fairmont.  She previously owned and operated the Plum Door.  She brings merchandising experience plus a love of quilting to our store.  She is our batik expert.  Checkout her samples!  Jodi is also more than glad to help you with all your quilting questions!

Lorri Jensen is from Sherburn and Oak Island, MN.  She is our business manager, inventory specialist, accountant and everything else we need to run the business.  She and her husband Paul own Oak Island Resort on Lake of the Woods.  Lorri manages  the store for us during the school year. In the fall, she and her daughter Kelsey come home early so  Kelsey can attend MCW.

Sharon Huse is part owner of the shop and truly the quilting fanatic of the bunch.  She can whip up a quilt in no time and keeps telling me quilting is a “no brainer.”  Sharon has taught beginning to advanced quilting classes for the past fifteen years.  She recently retired as Family Living instructor at MCW schools so now she has more time to spend at the shop. She is also our long arm quilter.  She will gladly help you with all your quilting questions.

Cindy Schwager is an accomplished quilter who has agreed to help us out once in awhile on the weekends.  She will be glad to help you with all your quilting questions.

Joel Detert is the other half of ...me...?  He is our chief carpenter, dreamer, planner, and, now that the shop is open, general handyman.    He finished our fireplace, but he really won't be done with the shop until the pergolas over our entry doors are finished.  And probably the minor fixes and repairs will never end!

Time for me...the other half of the partnership...Becky Detert.  I am from Welcome and also teach at MCW.  I am the strange one of the mix, but becoming less strange… in other words, I am now a quilter with a honest to gosh stash!       Although I am not a long time quilter, I have now made four full size quilts, four lap quilts, four baby quilts, and a number of wall hangings !!!  What is that about never having time to take care of your stash? I claim to have some computer knowledge and run our web site and develop newsletters.

Sharon’s cat guarded all the material we had stored at Sharon’s house until we could move it to the store.

About Us   -  Click for pictures of our shop!

Old Alley Quilt Shop opened October 30, 2004!  Sharon and Becky bought the old bowling alley in Sherburn, MN in November 2003 with the dream of opening a quilt shop complete with classroom and reading room.  We have been working on this dream since then.  We have kept the “old alleys” as part of our name theme and as part of our floor and cutting table.  We spent twelve months gutting the building and completely redoing it from fixing the hole in the roof to the new windows and doors.  We are proud of our effort and invite you to stop and see it!  We wanted ambiance, and we believe we have it!
