Old Alley Quilt Shop Class Policy

1. All classes will be held in the  classroom at Old Alley Quilt Shop in Sherburn.

2. All classes must be paid for one week before the class. A phone call will add your name to the list, but payment must be received before a supply list will be given or sent to you. Make checks payable to Old Alley Quilt Shop. A refund will be sent to you if the class is canceled. Vouchers for future classes will be given if you cancel. No refunds or vouchers for no shows on class day.

3. Most classes are for the quilt top only. Feel free to come and use the classroom any time for further assistance for completing your project.

4. Cutting mats, irons and ironing boards will be provided. Please bring your own rulers and rotary cutters. Please be familiar with the sewing machine you bring and make sure it is operating properly. We will have a sewing machine for you if it is reserved one week prior to the class on a first come, first served basis (We have five available).  If you are using one of our machines, please come early enough to learn how to run it before class begins.

5. We encourage you to bring your own lunch on all day Saturday classes. A refrigerator and microware are available. The coffee pot is always on. Quilters like to graze while they quilt so any treats will not be turned away.

6. Classes start at the time specified.  Please arrive early to purchase supplies, set up sewing machines etc.

2012 Block of the Month – Tonga Nature by Wing and a Prayer Design

Starts January 17th and usually meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month.  1:00 or 6:30 PM   Cost: $65.00 plus fabric and supplies and patternTeacher: Sharon Huse

This year's sampler is designed by Wing and a Prayer Design. This quilt features ten sampler blocks, a wonderful flying goose border, and some log cabin settings.  Let our staff pick twelve fabrics that will coordinate into a beautiful quilt.  Sharon will offer hints and break the quilt into monthly sections.  See the store sample. 

 

Sharon’s Double Diamond Table Runner

This is Sharon’s favorite tool.  Sharon designed this table runner using three fabrics and both sizes of Diamond Tools.  (Both sizes come in one package.)  The table runner features a stunning, braided, dimensional look in two sizes.  Pattern is included with the class.  See store sample.

 

Cuddle Quilt

Saturday, January 7th 9  AM – 3 PM or Tuesday, February 14th 10 AM – 4 PM or Saturday, April 7th  9 AM – 3 PM. Cost $20 + kit + backing + batting + spray adhesive  Teacher: Sharon

This cuddle quilt is a crowd pleaser no matter what age kid you might be.  This quilt is sewn with the “sew & flip” method.  This means that when you are done sewing your strips together your quilt will be quilted.  We encourage you to take the class and let us clean up the mess because the cuddle cloth sheds.  Class size will be limited due to the amount of space each cuddle quilt needs.   See class sample.

 

10 Minute Blocks

Thursday, January 9th 10 AM – 4 PM  or Saturday, January 21st 9AM – 3 PM or Monday, April 23rd   10 AM – 4PM.  Cost $20 + book + fabric   Teacher Sharon

Using this ten minute block technique allows you to create big blocks with a dimensional diamond center.  This lap quilt uses six of these ten minute blocks plus a border or two (It is easy to make your quilt bigger).  Fun and Fast!  See store sample.

 

Day & Night – Quilt design by Eleanor Burns

Eleanor Burns has designed a quick and easy version of her Day & Night quilt. This class uses the three strip – two fabric – version.  Choose two monotone fabrics that contrast with each other.  Like magic the result is a stunning star.   The required template is included in the book.  See store sample.   

 

 

 

 

 

Take Four Placemats

Monday, January 23rd   10 AM – 4PM or Saturday, February 4th 9 AM – 3 PM or Tuesday, March 27th 10 AM – 4 PM.   Cost $20 + pattern + fabric+ batting   Teacher Sharon

Take four fat quarters, one yard of backing, some scraps of batting and you will create four coordinated placemats.  This is a quilt as you go project so you will go home with your projects completed minus some binding.  This project is fun using a scramble technique.  Bring your walking foot.

 

Sunday, February 5th - "Souper Sunday Sew In

Join us for some quality sewing time on Super Bowl Sunday from Noon until 5 PM.  The soup is on us. Bring a treat and a sewing project or two!  Please let us know you are coming so we know how much soup to put on!

 

BEGINNERS ALERT!!  Turning 20 – Again!

Here is your chance to join the quilting craze.  This quilt top uses nine “fat-quarters” plus some border fabric.  You will learn fabric color selection, the importance of accurate cutting and sewing. The end result: lap size quilt!  Perfect opportunity to bring a buddy and double your fun. 

 

 

 

Handy Heart Potholder

Biscuit Basket

Monday, March 5th  10 AM – 4 PM    Cost: $20 + pattern + fabric Teacher: Sharon

This is a cute project designed for Christmas cards, mail, patterns…. It will make your junk look great!  We will start with 2 ½” fabric strips filled with stiff interfacing, and we will weave them into a versatile basket!  Line it with a napkin, and it can really hold biscuits!

Continuous Bias Binding with Mitered Corners Workshop

Arrange your class date.  Cost: $12.50   Teacher: Sharon 

Your top is sewn and quilted.  It is beautiful. Now to bind it!   Let Sharon walk you through making continuous binding.  Then she’ll help you sew it on your project with perfect mitered corners.  Please arrange a time with Sharon.

 

Photo Transfer Workshop

Picture quilts make great personalized special occasion gifts or pictures work great as personalized labels for your quilt.  Learn how to use pretreated photo sheets and a computer print shop- card - type program to create your unique fabric print. Bring six or more favorite pictures to practice on. It helps if they are “themed” so they can be grouped on a page.  Pictures can be printed or on a “flash” drive. Cost includes one fabric photo sheet.
